About Diverticulitis

What Does Crohn’s Disease Look Like?

Diverticulitis can be a critically dangerous condition. If you suspect you have it then please seek immediate medical help!

Diverticulitis is a very serious stage of diverticular disease. It has symptoms similar to that of diverticulosis but with the added complications of inflammation. Symptoms like irregular toilet habit and difficulty in passing out stools are part of diverticulitis. Pain is also a symptom in common with diverticulosis, but in this case, it is much more severe. It is present not just in a specific area but could spread to other parts of the abdomen. And instead of the pain coming and going away, it is continuous with much less relief for patients.

Even if going to the toilet is successful, this pain will remain because of the inflammation. The infection will most likely result in a high fever. The patient will be very tired, weak and nauseous (feel very sick with vomiting). Diarrhea and frequent going to the toilet happens. These symptoms may already require an urgent trip to the emergency room.

“Western medicine” treatment uses the following kinds of drugs:

  1. A broad-spectrum antibiotic to kill many different types of microorganisms. The doctor prefers an antibiotic that is poorly absorbed from the intestines into the blood. This is important so that the drug stays inside the bowels where it is needed and not affect the other organs of the body.
  2. An anti-inflammatory drug which can reduce the swelling and inflammation of the bowel.
  3. Painkillers – to reduce the pain experienced by numbing the nerves of the patient.

There are numerous drugs that fall under the groups classified above to serve the same purpose. These are chosen depending on the doctor’s choice and experience.

Pharma drugs, however, can cause undesired side-effects mostly to the liver and kidneys. These organs are mainly used by the body to process and eliminate chemicals (as drugs are). So these are usually affected. These drugs can also upset your stomach and increase the danger of internal bleeding.

Furthermore, using antibiotics will eradicate certain bacteria while allowing other bacteria to flourish. This can lead to a serious problem. The good bacteria in the intestines could be killed off while the bad ones remain and take control. This will upset the delicate balance of bowel health and cause further illness.

However, in Diverticulitis condition, the patient can’t be too picky.

The most serious cases of diverticulitis require hospitalization and possible surgery. Doctors would have to cut away parts of the affected bowel. The surgery itself is a big risk, especially for patients who are already weak or the elderly. This should be the least option and be avoided as much as possible.

Natural Healing

Alternative natural therapy has a different approach. It aims to tackle the root causes. Once we know what the root cause is, we can tackle it in various ways.

In diverticular diseases, the root cause is weak intestines. So we recommend vitamin protocol to strengthen the intestinal tissues. This can allow the body to somewhat shrink the pouches in the intestines.

But for an emergency, the patient should be brought to the nearest medical care facility.
