Diverticulitis is a burst of infection within the intestines. It is an emergency medical condition that requires immediate medical attention in a hospital.
It has symptoms similar to that of diverticulosis – with the added complications of inflammation.
The infection will most likely result in a high fever. The patient will be very tired, weak, and nauseous (feel very sick with vomiting).
Symptoms include difficulty in passing out stools. Blood might be seen in the toilet.
Pain is a common symptom of diverticulosis. In this case, it is much more severe. It is present not just in a specific area but could be spread to other parts of the abdomen. Instead of the pain coming and going away, it is continuous with much less relief.
The belly is inflated and hard to the touch.
Even if going to the toilet is successful, this pain will remain because of the inflammation.
Diarrhea and frequent going to the toilet happens.
